Marine Ceramic Coating

Salt, UV and the Elements.
Your Gelcoat Needs Proper Protection.

The Sunshine Coast marine environment is one of the most demanding on the planet for boat surfaces. Saltwater, UV radiation, hard water deposits, marine growth and the constant wet-dry cycle all attack your gelcoat β€” accelerating oxidation, chalking and dullness faster than almost any other environment. Traditional wax offers weeks of protection. Gtechniq Marine Ceramic coating bonds permanently to the gelcoat at a molecular level and lasts years.

We use Gtechniq's dedicated two-stage Marine Ceramic system β€” Marine Ceramic Base followed by Marine Ceramic Top. This isn't an automotive product repurposed for boats. It's specifically engineered for marine gelcoat and the conditions boats face in and out of the water. Every vessel is assessed, prepared and coated in our controlled Corbould Park studio.

We accommodate vessels up to approximately 7 metres in length and up to 3.5 metres in height β€” trailer boats, powerboats, fishing boats, ski boats, bowriders and jet skis. All work is performed inside our studio. If you're unsure whether your vessel fits, call us before booking.

The Gtechniq Marine System

Two Stages. One Permanent Result.

Gtechniq's Marine Ceramic system is a two-stage application β€” Base first, Top over it. Each stage delivers different properties. Together they deliver the most complete marine gelcoat protection available from a professional installer.

Stage 2 β€” Performance Layer
Marine Ceramic Top
Dirt repellency, gloss and UV defence
Applied over Marine Ceramic Base, Marine Ceramic Top delivers the performance layer β€” unparalleled dirt repellency, exceptional gloss and surface slickness. Its strong anti-static function keeps surfaces dust-free between uses, and a built-in UV filter adds a further layer of protection against premature fading. The result is a surface that practically cleans itself and stays looking better for longer.
  • + Applied over Ceramic Base
  • + Extreme dirt and water repellency
  • + Strong anti-static β€” dust-free surface
  • + Built-in UV filter
  • + Enhanced gloss and surface slickness
  • + Dramatically easier to clean and maintain

The two-stage system delivers what single-stage products can't β€” permanent hardness and UV resistance from the Base, combined with maximum dirt repellency, gloss and anti-static performance from the Top. For Sunshine Coast conditions, both stages are recommended on every job.

Add-On Protection

Protect More Than Just the Hull

The hull isn't the only surface that needs protection. These add-ons can be included with any marine ceramic coating job β€” get in touch to discuss what's right for your vessel.

πŸͺŸ
Glass and Windscreen Coating
Gtechniq Smart Glass
Hydrophobic glass coating on all windscreens and windows. Rain and spray sheet off rather than sitting on the glass β€” dramatically improved visibility at speed and in choppy conditions. Also makes removing salt residue and bug splatter significantly easier.
πŸ”˜
Trailer Wheel Coating
Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour
Ceramic coating for trailer wheels and rims. Salt and saltwater exposure accelerates corrosion on unprotected trailer wheels β€” C5 creates a protective barrier that resists salt, brake dust and road grime, keeping wheels cleaner and lasting longer.

Why the Studio Matters

Marine Coating Requires a Controlled Environment

Applying ceramic coating to a boat hull outdoors β€” in a car park, on a driveway or at a marina β€” introduces variables that directly compromise the result. Dust contamination, unstable temperature and humidity, inadequate preparation lighting. These aren't minor inconveniences, they're the difference between a coating that lasts years and one that fails in months.

01
Dust-Free Application
Airborne dust contamination during ceramic application creates inclusions in the cured coating. Our enclosed studio eliminates this entirely β€” critical on large hull surfaces where any inconsistency is visible.
02
4m Studio Lighting
Professional studio lighting at 4 metres means every surface is assessed under the conditions that reveal what natural light hides β€” oxidation patterns, surface defects and contamination identified before coating is applied.
03
Controlled Temperature
Marine ceramic coatings require stable temperature and humidity to bond and cure correctly. Our studio provides consistent conditions regardless of what's happening outside β€” no humidity spikes, no direct sun, no wind.
04
Multi-Stage Decontamination
Salt residue, marine growth residue, wax and contamination must be completely removed before any coating is applied. Our decontamination process is thorough and non-negotiable β€” the coating bonds to the gelcoat, not to contamination on top of it.
05
Correct Surface Preparation
If the gelcoat shows oxidation or surface defects, machine correction is performed before coating. Coating over an unpolished surface locks in the deterioration rather than protecting against it. We assess and advise before we proceed.
06
Gtechniq Accredited Process
We follow the Gtechniq application protocol on every marine job β€” the same process that backs the product's performance claims. There are no shortcuts in our studio regardless of vehicle type or size.

Why Ceramic Over Wax

Wax Washes Off. Ceramic Doesn't.

Most boat owners use wax or polymer sealant. It's what their marina sells and what they've always used. Here's the honest comparison.

Traditional
Wax and Sealant
Requires reapplication every few months
Marine wax provides a basic temporary barrier that degrades rapidly in saltwater and UV exposure. Most boat owners reapply every 3-6 months. It washes off, breaks down under UV and offers minimal resistance to oxidation over time. For a boat in regular use on the Sunshine Coast, it's a constant maintenance cycle.
  • βœ— Washes off in saltwater
  • βœ— Degrades under UV in weeks to months
  • βœ— Needs reapplication every 3-6 months
  • βœ— Limited chemical and oxidation resistance
  • βœ— Ongoing cost and time investment

FAQ

Marine Ceramic Coating β€” Answered

What's the difference between Marine Ceramic Base and Marine Ceramic Top?

They work as a two-stage system. Marine Ceramic Base is the foundation β€” it bonds permanently to the gelcoat at a molecular level, forming an ultra-hard protective barrier against UV, saltwater, oxidation and swirl marks. Marine Ceramic Top is applied over the Base and adds the performance layer β€” extreme dirt repellency, enhanced gloss, an anti-static function that keeps the surface dust-free, and an additional UV filter. Together they deliver what neither product can achieve alone. We recommend both stages on every marine job.

Can you coat aluminium boats?

Yes β€” aluminium hulls can be coated using the appropriate Gtechniq product for the surface. Aluminium requires different preparation to fibreglass gelcoat. We assess the surface before recommending a product and approach. Call us to discuss your specific vessel.

My gelcoat is looking dull and oxidised β€” can you restore it first?

In many cases yes. Mild to moderate oxidation can be significantly improved through machine polishing before ceramic coating is applied β€” locking in a restored finish rather than coating over deterioration. Severe oxidation that has gone through the gelcoat entirely may not be fully restorable without repainting. We assess the condition honestly before quoting and tell you what's achievable.

How long does a marine ceramic coating job take?

It depends on vessel size, condition and scope. A standard jet ski or small trailer boat is typically a 1-2 day job. A full-size powerboat up to 7 metres with both coating stages, glass and wheel add-ons is a 2-3 day job minimum. Exact timing is confirmed at assessment.

What's the maximum vessel size you can accommodate?

We can accommodate vessels up to approximately 7 metres in length and 3.5 metres in height β€” on trailer, inside our studio bay at Corbould Park. If you're unsure whether your vessel fits, call us before booking and we'll confirm. We'd rather sort that out upfront.

Does the boat need to be clean before I drop it off?

It helps but it doesn't need to be perfect. We carry out our own multi-stage decontamination wash as part of every job β€” removing salt residue, marine growth residue, wax and contamination before any product is applied. That said, removing heavy salt and grime before drop-off is a courteous starting point.

How do I maintain the coating after application?

Rinse with fresh water after every saltwater use β€” this is good practice regardless of coating. For washing, use a pH-neutral marine shampoo and a soft wash mitt. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh detergents and brushes that could scratch the coating surface. The coating dramatically reduces the effort and frequency required to keep the vessel looking good.

How much does it cost?

All pricing is by assessment β€” marine jobs vary significantly based on vessel size, surface construction, condition and the scope of work included. Call us on 0458 165 810 or get in touch via the contact form and we'll work through the right approach and provide an accurate quote before you commit to anything.
