When You Book a Coating

Booking a ceramic coating for the first time can feel like a leap of faith. You're handing over your car for multiple days and trusting a process you can't see. Here's exactly what happens, step by step, from the moment you drop off to the moment you get the keys back.

Before You Even Arrive

The Booking Conversation

Every coating job starts with a conversation, not a form. When you reach out, we talk through your vehicle, how you use it, and how long you plan to keep it. This matters more than most people expect — the right coating tier for a car you're keeping five years is genuinely different to the right tier for one you're planning to sell in eighteen months.

We'll also ask about the paint's current condition, whether it's been corrected before, and whether you're after paint-only protection or a package that extends to wheels, glass and interior. This is when we lock in a date, take a deposit to order your specific coating, and give you an honest estimate of studio time.

We order coatings specifically for your booking rather than keeping generic stock on the shelf. That's part of why a deposit secures your slot — it's not just holding a calendar date, it's committing product to your car.

Day One

Decontamination and Correction

Your car arrives and the first thing that happens has nothing to do with gloss — it's about getting the surface completely clean at a molecular level. Bonded grime, embedded iron particles, and oils sit on paint that looks clean to the eye but isn't clean enough for a coating to bond properly.

Deep Decontamination

Chemical and physical decontamination removes bonded contaminants a standard wash never touches. The paint needs to be genuinely bare before anything else happens.

Paint Inspection

Every panel gets checked under proper studio lighting. Even new vehicles commonly arrive with light marring, transport marks, or factory defects invisible under normal light.

Machine Correction

Correction removes existing defects and refines the surface before anything gets sealed underneath. This is the step that determines whether your finish looks factory-fresh or just glossy.

Specialist Resin

A refining resin creates the ideal bonding surface for the coating, maximising how well it adheres and how long it ultimately lasts.

Overnight Cure

The resin cures overnight in controlled studio conditions before any coating goes anywhere near the paint.

Damage Documentation

Any pre-existing damage gets noted and photographed before we proceed, so there's a clear record of the car's condition at drop-off.

Day Two

Coating Application

This is the step everyone pictures when they think "ceramic coating," but it's also the shortest part of the process by the time you factor in everything that happens before it. The coating itself — whether that's Crystal Serum Light, Crystal Serum Ultra, or C1 for a non-standard surface — is applied panel by panel in a controlled environment.

Application isn't just wiping product onto paint. Each panel needs to be worked into 2ft by 2ft sections, given the correct dwell time to bond, then wiped clean before the product flashes and becomes difficult to level. Get this wrong and you end up with high spots that need correcting later. This is why professional application matters — it's a narrow working window with real consequences for getting it wrong, and it's the single biggest factor in how long the coating actually lasts once it's on your car.

If you've added an EXOv5 finishing layer, that goes on after the base coating has had time to flash off properly, usually with a wait of around two hours to let the base coat settle before the topcoat is applied.

Day Three

Final Checks and Handover

Before your car goes anywhere, we check every panel under proper light specifically hunting for high spots or anything that isn't sitting evenly. This is the step that separates a rushed job from one that's actually been checked properly — high spots are the most common coating defect, and catching them now means the difference between a quick fix and a full re-correction months later.

→ Warranty registration and documentation, so your coating is officially on record with the manufacturer.
→ Aftercare briefing — how long to wait before the first wash, what products are safe, what to avoid.
→ Handover walkthrough, so you can see the result and ask any questions before you drive away.

Once applied, the coating requires roughly 12 hours of controlled curing with no exposure to moisture. This is largely complete by the time you collect the car, but it's part of why we don't rush the handover — the coating needs to actually finish curing properly, not just look finished.

After You Leave

The First 72 Hours

The relationship doesn't end at handover. The first few days after coating matter for how well it settles in — avoid washing the car for the period we advise, keep it away from rain where possible, and let the cure finish properly before treating it like a normal, fully-cured coated vehicle. After that, proper ongoing maintenance is what determines whether you get the full lifespan out of the coating or fall short of it.
